Osteoarthritis

Osteoarthritis is a form of arthritis that features the breakdown and eventual loss of the cartilage of one or more joints. Cartilage is a protein that provides a "cushion" between the bones of the joints.
Osteoarthritis
Osteoarthritis is the most common form of arthritis and it is the most commonly occuring joint disease. The risk of Osteoarthritis increases with age. The most risk prone group under the age of 45 are males and above 55 years of age, females are more at risk.
According to studies, India has higher proliferative rate of OA among countries and is expected to remain at top position in chronic diseases till 2025. Osteoarthritis is abbreviated as OA or referred to as degenerative arthritis or degenerative joint disease (DJD). Osteoarthritis commonly affects the hands, feet, spine, and large weight-bearing joints, such as the hips and knees. Osteoarthritis usually has no known cause and is referred to as primary osteoarthritis. When the cause of the osteoarthritis is known, that is if osteoarthritis arises due to some other medical condition, then the condition is referred to as secondary osteoarthritis.
